The Incredible Edible Animal Cell... It's a Pizza!
In science, students worked in collaborative groups to create an edible version of an animal cell- using pizza ingredients!! Students needed to use appropriate cell vocabulary when getting the materials to build the pizza cells. They needed to define each cell organelle and tell the function in order to receive materials. A great time was had by all!

Happy Holidays!
(Credit: Dr. Donna Stolz The University of Pittsburgh Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA) Nikon winner Donna Stolz is ready for Christmas -- on a microscopic level, at least. This is a collage of mammalian cells, stained to reveal various proteins and organelles and then assembled into a wreath. Happy holidays!

The Scientific Method
Over the next few days, we will be reviewing the process of the scientific method. We will be focusing on some very important vocabulary words-
- Independent Variable
- Dependent Variable
- Control
- Constant
- Hypothesis
- Observation
- Data
- Analyze
Independent v. Dependent Variables
Science Experiment #2 September 19-20, 2011
On Day One, students placed a gummy bear in a plastic cup filled with water. Prior to placing the gummy bear in the water, students took measurements including Length, Width, and Mass. Students each wrote their own hypothesis, stating what they thought would happen to the gummy bear. Some students thought it would disappear, some said it would shrink, and some said it would become larger.
Science Experiment #1 September 7-9, 2011
Question: What will happen to an egg when it is soaked in vinegar?
Science Class Grading Policy
The aim of science class is to expose student to the different sceinces, through both hands-on learning and non-fiction reading. In order to best learn, science class will be set up in a student-centered, hands-on approach to learning.
Most science work will be completed during class, which includes labs and reports. Sometimes students will have homework, which is expected to be completed in a timely manner.
Tests- 30%
Quizzes- 25%
